Creating and editing all sorts of documents is probably one of the most important features everyone uses on their computer and people are always in need of a good office package. However, paying for Microsoft Office is not a priority for most people and a good alternative is always needed.

LibreOffice suite is probably a favorite among free, open-source office tools. The program is completely free and it's fully compatible with both old and new Microsoft Office file formats such as DOCX, PPT, PPTX, and XLSX files.

It includes the following programs: Writer, Calc, Impress, Math, Draw, and Base. Writer is an amazing Microsoft Word alternative, while Calc is used for Excel spreadsheets. Impress is a presentation and slideshow manager. Draw can be used to create all sorts of cards and pamphlets whereas Base is a database management tool.

LibreOffice Math is a great tool for creating math equations but it's somewhat difficult to get the hang of. The Writer program includes the same option for adding equations, making LibreOffice quite a complex solution for editing technical documents.

The user interface should be familiar to people who are used to Microsoft Office, but you are also able to find plenty of unique design ideas. It's easy to get started with and you should easily find everything you want to use.

The menu bar doesn't implement ribbons and it only displays a drop-down list, which is sort of a letdown after using Microsoft Office. Updates are quite frequent and they often aim to actually make changes and improve the overall experience.
